The user assumes responsibility for proper installation, function testing, and safe operation of the firearm

Compatibility Verification

Before installing the CamSet3P-15, verify that the firearm and lower receiver meet the following compatibility requirements. If you experience any issues with installation or operation, verify these requirements before proceeding with additional troubleshooting:

Verify the firearm is an AR-15 pattern rifle.
Verify the lower receiver has a low-shelf fire control group (FCG) pocket configuration. High-shelf lower receivers are not compatible with the CamSet3P-15.
Verify the lower receiver fire control pocket (receiver shelf) depth is approximately 0.625″–0.630″.
Verify the upper and lower receivers are manufactured to standard AR-15 mil-spec dimensions.
Verify the lower receiver is compatible with mil-spec fire control components.
Verify an M16-profile bolt carrier group (BCG) is installed.
Verify mil-spec fire control components are installed.
Verify the included three-position selector is installed.
Verify the CamSet3P-15 and three-position selector were installed according to the Installation Instructions.
Verify the firearm functions properly in SAFE and SEMI with the CamSet3P-15 installed before attempting to use the AIDED RESET position.
If using aftermarket components, verify they are compatible with standard AR-15 mil-spec specifications.

Important — Lower Receiver Compatibility: The CamSet3P-15 requires adequate clearance within the rear FCG pocket of the lower receiver. Internal pocket geometry can vary between manufacturers and models, including among receivers generally described as low shelf. A receiver being advertised as “mil-spec” or “low shelf” does not necessarily mean its internal pocket dimensions and clearances are identical to those of another manufacturer’s receiver.

Before You Begin

Before beginning installation, verify that you have the following:
Verify the firearm is unloaded.
Remove all ammunition from the work area.
Wear appropriate eye protection.
Verify that the included three-position selector is available for installation.
Required Tools
- 3/16″ Allen wrench – Pistol grip screw
- 3/32″ Allen wrench – Selector lever screws
- 5/64″ Allen wrench – CamSet3P-15 set screw
Read all instructions completely before beginning installation.
Camtac recommends that all installation, inspection, and gunsmithing work be performed by a qualified gunsmith.

Installation Instructions

Step 1 – Verify the Firearm is Unloaded

Point the firearm in a safe direction and verify that it is completely unloaded. Remove the magazine, lock the bolt to the rear, and visually and physically inspect the chamber to ensure no ammunition is present.

⚠️ Remove all ammunition from the work area before proceeding.

Step 2 – Prepare the Three-Position Selector

Identify the selector cylinder, long selector lever, short ambidextrous selector lever, and supplied cap head screws.

For a right-handed configuration, attach the long selector lever to the side of the selector cylinder opposite the selector detent holes before installing the selector cylinder into the lower receiver.

The selector cylinder features a small alignment radius that matches the selector lever, allowing the lever to install in only one orientation.

Using a 3/32″ Allen wrench, tighten the supplied cap head screw until secure. The screw is supplied with blue threadlocker pre-applied to help prevent loosening during use.

Do not install the short ambidextrous selector lever at this time. It must be installed after the selector cylinder has been inserted into the lower receiver.

For a left-handed configuration, reverse the lever arrangement.

⚠️ Do not overtighten the selector screw.

Step 3 – Separate the Upper and Lower Receivers

Push out the rear takedown pin and front pivot pin, then separate the upper receiver from the lower receiver.

Step 4 – Remove the Factory Safety Selector

Ensure the hammer is in the cocked position.

Using a 3/16″ Allen wrench, loosen the pistol grip screw. In many cases, it is not necessary to completely remove the grip screw. Loosening the grip screw approximately 7–8 turns is often sufficient to remove the selector while retaining the safety detent and spring.

Remove the factory or mil-spec safety selector.

Step 5 – Install the Included Three-Position Selector

Install the partially assembled three-position selector into the lower receiver with the selector set to either the SAFE or SEMI position.

⚠️ Do not install the selector in the AIDED RESET position during assembly, as interference between the upper and lower receivers may occur when closing the firearm.

Step 6 – Secure the Grip Screw

Using a 3/16″ Allen wrench, retighten the pistol grip screw and verify smooth selector movement between all 3 positions.

Step 7 – Partially Reassemble the Firearm

Reconnect the upper and lower receivers using the front pivot pin only. Leave the rear takedown pin disengaged to allow access for positioning and alignment of the CamSet3P-15.

Step 8 – Position the CamSet3P-15

Ensure the hammer is in the cocked position and the three-position selector is set to either SAFE or SEMI.

Place the CamSet3P-15 onto the rear upper receiver lug (rear receiver post). Visually center the CamSet3P-15 on the receiver post and, using a 5/64″ Allen wrench, lightly tighten the set screw just enough to hold the device in place.

⚠️ Do not fully tighten the set screw at this time. The device must be allowed to self-align before final tightening.

Step 9 – Allow the Device to Self-Align

Slowly close the upper receiver onto the lower receiver, allowing the CamSet3P-15 to self-align as the receivers come together.

⚠️ Do not force the receivers closed.

If resistance is encountered, reopen the receivers and verify that:

The CamSet3P-15 is properly positioned on the rear receiver post.

The selector is in the SAFE or SEMI position.

Step 10 – Secure the CamSet3P-15

Reopen the upper and lower receivers and, using a 5/64″ Allen wrench, snug the CamSet3P-15 set screw just enough to securely hold the device in position during the function check.

⚠️ Do not fully tighten the set screw at this time. Final tightening will be performed after the firearm has successfully passed the complete function check.

Step 11 – Complete Reassembly

Close the upper and lower receivers and fully seat the rear takedown pin.

Function Check

Before loading or firing the firearm, perform a complete function check.

Safety Check

Verify the firearm is unloaded.
Charge the firearm by cycling the bolt and allowing it to return fully into battery.
Place the selector in the SAFE position.
Attempt to pull the trigger.
The hammer must not fall.

Semi-Automatic Check

Verify the firearm is unloaded.
Place the selector in the SEMI position.
Charge the firearm by cycling the bolt and allowing it to return fully into battery.
Pull the trigger and hold it to the rear.
Manually cycle the action.
Slowly release the trigger until the reset is felt.
Pull the trigger again.
The hammer should fall normally, and the firearm should function as a standard semi-automatic rifle.

Important: In the SEMI position, the CamSet3P-15 remains inactive and does not contact or interfere with any fire control group components. The firearm operates as a standard factory semi-automatic rifle.

Aided Reset Check

Verify the firearm is unloaded.
Place the selector in the AIDED RESET position.
Charge the firearm by cycling the bolt and allowing it to return fully into battery.
Verify proper trigger movement and aided reset function.
Refer to the installation video for the complete aided reset function check and operating instructions.

If the firearm successfully passes all function checks, proceed to Step 12 to complete the installation.

Step 12 – Final Tightening

After the firearm has successfully passed the complete function check, use a 5/64″ Allen wrench to fully tighten the CamSet3P-15 set screw.

⚠️ Tighten only until secure. Do not overtighten, as excessive force may damage the set screw, screw head, or the CamSet3P-15 device.

Step 13-Install the Ambidextrous Selector Lever (Optional)

After the firearm has successfully passed the complete function check and the CamSet3P-15 has been fully secured, install the short ambidextrous selector lever onto the exposed side of the selector cylinder.

Using a 3/32″ Allen wrench, install and tighten the supplied cap head screw until the selector lever is secure. The screw is supplied with blue threadlocker pre-applied to help prevent loosening during use.

⚠️ Do not overtighten the selector screw.

Cycle the selector through the SAFE, SEMI, and AIDED RESET ON CLOSE positions to verify smooth operation.

Product Operation

Position 1 – SAFE

Functions as a standard safety.
The trigger should not release the hammer.

Position 2 – SEMI

Standard factory semi-automatic operation.
The CamSet3P-15 remains inactive and does not contact or interfere with any fire control group components.

Position 3 – AIDED RESET ON CLOSE

The CamSet3P-15 engages and provides aided trigger reset operation while maintaining semi-automatic function.
The selector cannot be rotated from the AIDED RESET position while the bolt carrier group is open or locked to the rear. The bolt carrier group must be fully forward and in battery before returning the selector to the SEMI or SAFE positions.

Maintenance

To ensure reliable operation, the CamSet3P-15 should be cleaned and lubricated as part of the firearm’s normal maintenance schedule.

Like other moving firearm components, the CamSet3P-15 should be kept free of excessive fouling, carbon buildup, dirt, and debris. Apply a quality firearm lubricant to the contact and bearing surfaces as needed to maintain smooth operation and minimize wear.

Inspect the CamSet3P-15 during routine firearm maintenance to verify it remains securely installed and operates properly.

Troubleshooting

Device Will Not Align

Verify the selector is installed in the SAFE or SEMI position.
Verify the hammer is in the cocked position.
Ensure the CamSet3P-15 is loosely installed before closing the receivers.
Allow the device to self-align before final tightening.
Verify the lower receiver has a low-shelf FCG pocket configuration. High-shelf lower receivers are not compatible.
Verify the lower receiver provides adequate clearance for the CamSet3P-15.
Verify the upper and lower receivers are manufactured to standard AR-15 mil-spec dimensions.

Inconsistent Operation

Verify the CamSet3P-15 is installed correctly.
Verify the selector is installed and aligned correctly.
Verify compatibility with mil-spec fire control components.
Verify the lower receiver has a low-shelf FCG pocket configuration.
Verify the lower receiver provides adequate clearance for the CamSet3P-15.
Verify the upper and lower receivers are manufactured to standard AR-15 mil-spec dimensions.
If necessary, loosen the CamSet3P-15 set screw, allow the device to self-align, and retighten.

Failure to Reset

Verify proper installation.
Verify the selector is fully in the AIDED RESET position.
Verify compatibility with mil-spec fire control components.
Verify the lower receiver has a low-shelf FCG pocket configuration. High-shelf lower receivers are not compatible.
Verify the lower receiver provides adequate clearance for the CamSet3P-15.
Verify an M16-profile bolt carrier group (BCG) is installed.
Verify the firearm functions correctly with the CamSet3P-15 removed.
Verify the upper and lower receivers are manufactured to standard AR-15 mil-spec dimensions.

Selector Will Not Rotate from AIDED RESET

Symptom

The selector cannot be moved from the AIDED RESET position to SEMI or SAFE.

Cause

The bolt carrier group is open, locked to the rear, or not fully in battery.

Solution

Release the bolt carrier group and allow it to move fully forward into battery. Once the bolt carrier group is fully closed, the selector can be rotated normally from the AIDED RESET position to SEMI or SAFE.
